In tropical countries in particular, parasitic diseases such as malaria and worm infections play a devastating role. As a result of tourists travelling further and to more widespread locations in recent decades, the incidence of these diseases has also risen outside of the tropics. One of the central tasks of those involved with tropical medicine is, as a result of the disease’s severity, the diagnosis of malaria.
