Inflammation can occur anywhere in the body, including in the organs, and is caused through tissue irritation and injury. Examples of inflammation include that of the appendix, bladder, and sinuses. When we talk about inflammation, we also refer to the process of healing, as well as the defensive reaction against an injury which is started by the immune system. Inflammation is characterised externally by redness, heat and swelling, as well as pain. In cases where organs are inflamed, however, such symptoms are not always entirely visible.
