Parasitología
Parasitology is a medical field within microbiology, which is dedicated to the study of animal and human parasites. They are living organisms which infect living creatures which become their host, and are used for feeding and reproduction purposes. This damages the host, weakening their organs, destroying cells and depriving them of nutrients. Parasites can be subdivided into ectoparasites and endoparasites. Whereas ectoparasites target the host’s skin, hair or clothing, endoparasites are found in the blood, intestines and tissues. For symptoms including dry skin, rashes, fatigue, indigestion, weight loss or limb/muscle aches, one should consider a parasite infestation and consult a doctor, who will be able to perform a rapid test for their detection.
