Hematología

Haematology is a branch of internal medicine, dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of blood diseases as well as their physiological processes. A person’s blood count is not only indicative the presence of any blood diseases, as well as what kind, but also whether anything is not functioning properly or if any organs are affected. Among the most commonly-known diseases are leukaemia (blood cancer) and lymph node cancer, as well as anaemia and haemophilia. The latter two are disorders of the blood coagulation system. If not functioning properly, such a disorder can lead either to a tendency to bleed more or excessive clotting, in which a worst case scenario can lead to thrombosis. Devices such as the Micropoint qLabs®, are able to measure the blood’s clotting ability. These two diseases are also categorised under haemostaseology.
